Presented with Outstanding Achievement certificates for earning Chief Scout Award

Chief Scout Award badge. At the August 15th council meeting, City Council presented Sam Colpitts, Mason Schreiner, David Lee, Langston Darroch and Austin Marthaller with Outstanding Achievement certificates for earning a Chief Scout Award.

The Chief Scout Award is the highest award that can be achieved at the Scout level in Scouts Canada. Included in the requirements of this award is 30 hours of community service, outdoor skills (including sleeping in the outdoors with shelter made by one's own hands in winter), and achieving personal goals in a variety of skills and spirituality.

These youth are members of the 4th Spruce Grove Scouts which has been active in the community for the past 54 years. Between the five of them, they have a combined total of 27 years in Scouting. These Scouts have averaged 21 nights of camping each year. Camps have included attendance at Jamborees, winter lean-to camps, leadership training, and travelling a total of 150 km by canoe on the North Saskatchewan River.

Congratulations are extended to these youth on achieving the highest level of accomplishment in the Scout level of Scouts Canada.

Of special note - Scouts offer their left hand for a handshake; it symbolizes a laying down of the shield in an offer of friendship.
