Congratulations to Spruce Grove Panthers rugby team

At the June 27th council meeting, City Council presented the Spruce Grove Panthers rugby team with Outstanding Achievement certificates for their Division Two Championship win at the Edmonton Public Schools Metro Rugby
Championship held in Edmonton on June 1, 2011.

The Spruce Grove Composite High Panthers rugby team had a perfect season of five wins and zero losses. They went on to play in the Division 2 Edmonton Metro Rugby championship game against the Memorial Composite High School team from Stony Plain. It was a tight, hard hitting game with both teams stretching their opponents to the limits.

With the final game tied after regulation play, the match went to a kick-off, where it still remained tied. The Panthers finally prevailed with a winning kick in sudden death. The team was largely made up of players who had never played the game, but took advantage of their strength and athleticism to get them through.

Congratulations are extended to the Spruce Grove Panthers on a very successful season.
