Spruce Grove Fire Services responds to fire at Millgrove School

Damage limited to small area of one classroom

Early in the morning on Thursday, Aug. 25, Spruce Grove Fire Services responded to a fire at Millgrove School.

An alarm call was received at 1:11 a.m. and fire crews arrived on scene at 1:15 a.m.

Crews noticed smoke in the school and after gaining access to the building, initiated a call for additional off duty resources, chief officers and mutual aid from the Stony Plain Fire Department.

The fire was quickly located and extinguished. Damage was limited to a small area of one classroom and is estimated at $5,000. There were no injuries. Staff from Parkland School Division are assessing the damage.

Spruce Grove Fire Services is continuing to investigate the fire, which is not considered suspicious at this time. Fire Services is interested in speaking to anyone who may have been behind the school between 9 p.m. on Aug. 24 and 1 a.m. on Aug. 25.
