Light Up Your Life Society launches annual campaign

Dove of Hope lighting Members of Spruce Grove City Council and representatives of the Light Up Your Life campaign enjoyed the season's first snowfall as the Dove of Hope was lit on Nov. 23.

The Dove of Hope is a symbol of peace and hope that is lit every year in support of the Light Up Your Life Society's annual campaign.

Since its inception in 1992, the Light Up Your Life Society has raised more than $1 million for palliative, hospice and continuing care services at the WestView Health Centre, which has benefited countless patients and families in the region.

Funds are raised as residents from Spruce Grove, Stony Plain, Parkland County and the surrounding area sponsor clear light bulbs, often in memory of a loved one, with a $10 donation.

Funds have been used to purchase enhanced equipment, including specialized beds, portable ramps, patient lifts and trapeze bars, and mobile hospice care kits. Additionally, the society has funded special services, including facility respite care costs, adult day program support costs and the fees to have specialized electric beds delivered to clients in their home.

This year's campaign will run until Dec. 31.
