Congratulations to John Good

At the October 17th Committee of the Whole meeting, City Council presented John good with an Outstanding Achievement certificate for his Silver medal wins at the Special Olympics World Summer Games held in Athens, Greece, June 24 – July 4, 2011.

John Good, a member of the tri-area’s West Central District Special Olympics program joined Team Canada and went to Athens, Greece at the end of June to swim against top competitors from other nations at the Worlds Summer Special
Olympic Games.

In preparation for the games John prepared for a year in advance by swimming three times a week at the TransAlta Tri Leisure Centre pool and is in the water upwards of 90 minutes a day. He also attended a Team Canada training camp in Toronto for a week prior to flying to Greece for the games. It was a long trip to Greece, and when the team arrived they had some time to settle into their new surroundings. John’s performances in the pool showed that he settled in just fine earning three silver medals in as many events. John placed second in the 25m Backstroke, 25m Freestyle, and 4 x 50m Freestyle.

Congratulations are extended to John on his remarkable achievements in Athens, Greece. His efforts will serve as a great motivator for himself and his teammates from the West Central District team.
