Rogers Hometown Hockey Tour coming to Spruce Grove

Spruce Grove residents will be able to wrap up the year by celebrating Canada’s national pastime as the Rogers Hometown Hockey Tour External presented by Scotiabank and Dodge arrives in the city on Dec. 30-31, 2017.

The weekend will feature a jam-packed two-day festival, which is free of charge and open to fans of all ages. There will be live entertainment, local celebrities, NHL alumni and a multitude of activities for the whole family to enjoy, concluding with a live viewing party of two NHL game broadcasts on Sunday, Dec. 31, with Ron MacLean and Tara Slone hosting live onsite from the Sportsnet Mobile Studio.

“We are thrilled to be welcoming this uniquely Canadian hockey festival to Spruce Grove,” says City Manager Robert Cotterill. “This is a wonderful opportunity for us to showcase our city and show the rest of the country why Spruce Grove is such a great place to call home.”

The two NHL matchups on Dec. 31 will be the Toronto Maple Leafs versus the Vegas Golden Knights (in Las Vegas), followed by the Winnipeg Jets versus the Edmonton Oilers (in Edmonton).

On New Year’s Eve, a local community group will also be hosting the second annual New Year’s Celebration in Spruce Grove, which will be held alongside the Rogers Hometown Hockey festivities.

“Combining the ultimate hockey fan experience with a community celebration will be a truly memorable way for residents to ring in the New Year,” says Brent Oliver, Director of Cultural Services with the City. “It’s going to be a great time and we are looking forward to hosting everyone in our hometown!”

Spruce Grove is one of 24 stops on the 2017-18 Hometown Hockey Tour External.
