The City of Spruce Grove, Stony Plain FCSS, Parkland County and Community Future Capital Region are partnering to present the 2nd annual Funders Forum and Grant Writing and Volunteer Development Workshop.

The Funders Forum, set for March 15, will help make local non-profit groups aware of government and private sector grants that are available to them. The forum will run from 5 to 9:30 p.m. at Elks Hall, 400 Diamond Ave., Spruce Grove. The cost to attend is $30 per person, which includes supper and GST.

This forum will also provide an environment where those who attend can network and get immediate answers to their questions. Approximately a dozen funders will be attending the forum.

The Grant Writing and Volunteer Development Workshop, scheduled for March 17, is a two-part event with sessions on accountability and grant writing. The workshop will run from from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Elks Hall, 400 Diamond Ave., Spruce Grove. The cost to attend is $20 per person, which includes  a light breakfast and GST.

The workshop session on accountability, which will be facilitated by Charity Central, will explore accountability practices of registered charities and non-profit organizations. Using a self-diagnostic tool, groups will be able to assess their organization’s current accountability practices and start to develop an action plan. A toolkit containing a self-diagnostic pack, a handbook, tip sheets and checklists will be available to assist participants.

In the second workshop session on writing grants, groups will learn a step by step approach to grant writing that incorporates a marketing approach. Facilitated by Alana La Perle, participants will learn to see a grant proposal as a “product” that can be “packaged” and “promoted” to meet the needs of a “target market”.

Interested groups are encouraged to register early as space is limited to 75 participants for both the Funders Forum and the Grant Writing and Volunteer Development Workshop.
