Local student named Fire Chief for the Day

Brooke Mulligan, a Grade 2 student at the Prescott Learning Centre in Spruce Grove, traded in her school books and knapsack for fire trucks and training exercises with Spruce Grove Fire Services when she became Fire Chief for the Day on Oct. 25.

Brooke was picked up from school by firefighters in one of the Spruce Grove's pump trucks, toured the Spruce Grove fire hall and later took her seat in the Fire Chief's chair.

During the day, Brooke highlighted a number of safety tips that she hopes Spruce Grove residents will remember.

"In case a fire starts in your house, make sure your whole family knows how to get out and a safe place to meet," Brooke says. "If a fire does start, remember to stay low to the ground as you leave."

Fire Chief for the Day is an annual initiative organized by Spruce Grove Fire Services that promotes fire safety and prevention to elementary aged students in Spruce Grove.
