Providing disaster relief and assisting with rebuilding

The City of Spruce Grove is one of Alberta’s municipalities participating in the Municipalities Helping Slave Lake fund.

“The primary purpose of the fund is to provide disaster relief and assist with the rebuilding of the Town of Slave Lake,” says Doug Lagore, City of Spruce Grove Chief Administrative Officer and City Manager. “To put it in perspective, if each municipality in Alberta raised $500, the end result would be more than $150,000 raised.”

An Advisory Committee has been struck to administer the funds and ensure the funds are released based upon the needs assessment and recommendation of a local committee in Slave Lake. The Advisory Committee is in the process of setting up the local committee and is going to ensure committee members have not been directly impacted by the fire. If a local committee can’t be established, the Advisory Committee will fulfil this role.

The Advisory Committee wants to put in place resources for the Town to draw on in order to meet their needs and challenges going forward. This may take many forms, and will be decided upon by the Town of Slave Lake.

How to donate

Spruce Grove residents who would like to donate can come to the cashier’s desk at City Hall located at 315 Jespersen Ave. All donations to the City will receive a tax receipt that will be recognized by Revenue Canada. The City will donate the donations in a lump sum to the Town of Slave Lake.
