Council updates title from alderman to councillor

Spruce Grove City Council members, with the exception of the mayor, will now be referred to by the title of councillor instead of alderman.

Council approved the update to the title of elected officials during the Oct. 23 Inaugural City Council meeting.

The title of alderman has been used since Spruce Grove was proclaimed as a city in 1986; however, over the last several years, many municipalities have chosen to update this title to councillor, which is considered by many to be a more modern and gender neutral title.
