City council approves 2016-2018 Corporate Plan

Plan includes 3.9 per cent municipal tax increase for 2016

Spruce Grove City Council has approved the 2016-2018 Corporate Plan, which includes a 3.9 per cent municipal tax increase for next year.

The plan, which was approved during the Nov. 23 council meeting, also includes a 6.95 per cent increase in the utility rate, from $4.739 to $5.068 per cubic metre, and no change to the solid waste collection rate for 2016.

There will be a 1.25 per cent increase in the electrical franchise fee next year. The City charges utility providers a franchise fee for the exclusive right to provide service and access lands within Spruce Grove. The utility providers then charge these costs to their customers.

For a household with an assessed value of $339,357 and a monthly utility consumption of 16.5 cubic metres, the estimated impact will be $12.62 per month.

Property owners will receive their tax notices at the end of May, after the actual mill rate has been set.
