Flags will be lowered to honour fallen officers

Sunday, Sept. 25 is Police and Peace Officers’ National Memorial Day

On Sunday, Sept. 25, the flags at all City facilities will be lowered to half-mast from sunrise to sunset to honour fallen Canadian police and peace officers who gave their lives preserving our safety and security. A ceremony will be taking place at the Alberta Legislature on Sunday beginning at 1 p.m.

Each year, the last Sunday in September is Police and Peace Officers' National Memorial Day. This provincial memorial day was proclaimed by the Government of Alberta in 1999 to coincide with the Canadian Police and Peace Officers' Memorial Day ceremony in Ottawa.
