Drivers reminded to stop for school buses

Flashing red lights mean stop

School buses are a familiar sight during the week as they pick up and transport students to schools throughout Spruce Grove.

Other drivers also play an important role in helping to ensure these students make it to school safely.

When a school bus is stopped and has its red lights flashing, that means drivers on both sides of the road are required to stop (unless the bus is on the opposite side of a divided highway).

This is not only for the safety of any students getting on or leaving the bus, but it’s also the law. The penalty for passing a stopped school bus that is displaying flashing red lights is $402 and six demerit points.

It only takes a minute to stop, but the positive result of keeping Spruce Grove’s roads safe can last a lifetime.
