Safe City team educates youth on bike safety

Annual Bike Rodeo coming June 11 to Central Park

Bike Rodeo logo.Spruce Grove’s Safe City team will host the annual Bike Rodeo from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 11 at Central Park. In the case of inclement weather the event will be moved to inside the Agrena.

The Bike Rodeo provides the chance for children up to 12 years old to have their bikes and helmets inspected, ride the obstacle course and learn about safety. Members of Spruce Grove’s RCMP, Enforcement Services and Fire Services will be on hand at this free event. There will also be emergency vehicles on site for tours.

“The Bike Rodeo is a great place for youth to learn how to safely ride their bikes in a controlled and fun environment,” says A.J. Unrau, Spruce Grove Community Peace Officer. “It’s also rewarding for us to put on an afternoon event that gives parents and children the chance to bond, enjoy some lunch and walk away at the end of the day with a greater understanding of bike safety.”

Community Peace Officers will be on site to provide bike specific training and they hope to make the community a safer place through the event. Parents must accompany their children to the rodeo and sign a waiver for them to participate. All event participants can enjoy free food at the BBQ and also have the chance to win one of many prizes donated by this year’s sponsors.
