At the June 20th Committee of the Whole meeting, City Council presented the Spruce Grove Panthers Senior Girls basketball team Outstanding Achievement certificates for their first place win at the Edmonton Public School League Premier Conference held in Edmonton on March 5, 2011.

The Spruce Grove Panthers Senior Girls basketball team competes in the Edmonton Public Tier 1 League, and plays against the top teams in Edmonton and area. For the first time in the history of the school, the Panthers won the City Championship in 2011. This is the first Tier 1 Championship at any level of high school basketball for any team from Spruce Grove.

The team had a regular season record of 7-1, and finished first in the season standings. Playoff action saw them defeat Ross Sheppard High School by 29 points in the semi-final, and then went on to defeat Jasper Place Composite High 64-55 in a memorable championship game.

The Spruce Grove Panthers have been in the championship game for four consecutive years, and this year finally won their long awaited city championship standing. The league has been dominated over the past 20 years by the three "big schools" in Edmonton, so for the Spruce Grove Panthers to win this title is a tremendous achievement.

Congratulations are extended to the Spruce Grove Panthers Senior Girls basketball team for a very successful season!
