Residents invited to submit Awards of Excellence nominations

Program honours outstanding individuals and contributors to Spruce Grove, nominations due April 30

Residents are invited to submit nominations for the City's Awards of Excellence program, to help honour those who have had a lasting impact on Spruce Grove.

The City of Spruce Grove established the Awards of Excellence program in 2003 to recognize achievements and contributions made to the community, and has annually accepted nominations for the program in the following categories:

  • Athletics
  • Arts
  • Education
  • Environment
  • Innovation
  • Community Service
  • Special Citation for Significant Achievement

Since its inception, inductees into the program have been remarkable individuals who have earned national or international distinction in their field, made a significant contribution to the community or placed Spruce Grove on the world stage.

In 2015, Lesley McEwan and Darwin Park were inducted into the program in the athletics and community service categories, respectively. McEwan is a world champion curler, fitness trainer and national/international bodybuilder has been involved with the Spruce Grove Curling Club and a local gym for more than 35 years, while Park, has embodied volunteerism for decades, whole-heartedly serving Spruce Grove with the motto that, "Community service means giving of yourself, wherever you are."

The prestigious list of individuals who have been recognized by this program also includes Grant Fuhr, Jennifer Heil, Lorna Kemp, Ed Huber, Henry Singer, Allan Shenfield, Cindy Barratt, George Cuff and Dr. Jason Acker.

Take this opportunity to nominate an outstanding individual for the Awards of Excellence program and help us express gratitude for their contributions to the community.

Nomination forms and eligibility details are available online and at City Hall. Nominations will be accepted until April 30, 2016 and must be submitted to City Hall in person, by email, fax or direct mail.
