Regulations for Concrete and Asphalt Recycling

The City of Spruce Grove Public Works yard will accept concrete and asphalt from contractors and City residents at no charge, however, the following limitations are in place:

All persons are to stop at the Public Works office to identify the nature of the load, its point of origin, their truck description, their company name, contact person and approximately how many loads they will be hauling. Hours of Operation for the Public Works yard are Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Material Requirements:

  1. Asphalt and concrete slabs, to a maximum of 150mm (6”) thick shall be no larger than 900mm x 900mm (30” x 30”) in their overall dimension.
  2. Asphalt and concrete sections exceeding 150mm (6”) in thickness shall be no larger than 300mm x 300mm x 300mm (12” x 12” x 12”) in their overall dimension.
  3. Rebar cannot protrude more than 50mm (2”) outside the maximum dimensions identified in items 1 & 2 above.
  4. No pillars, columns, beams, pilings or other structurally or heavily reinforced sections still containing reinforcing.
  5. No manholes, pipes or woven wire mesh reinforced products except slabs.
  6. No loads contaminated with clay, topsoil, sod, plastics, wire, wood or other deleterious products.
  7. No brick, block or other compressible products.

Any person using the concrete and asphalt stockpile will be held responsible for removing any items not meeting the stated criteria. Anyone wishing to dispose of products not meeting these requirements are at liberty to dispose of them at regional landfills.
