In 1974, the Spruce Grove & District Agricultural Society sponsored the build of the city’s covered arena, located at 452 Fifth Avenue, featuring two regulation-size ice rinks (East and West Arenas) and a six-sheet curling facility. To recognize the essential role the Agricultural Society played in development and construction of this valued leisure facility, it was identified, rather uniquely, as the “Agrena.”
Monday, February 16, 2004 was a special day for the City of Spruce Grove and its Agrena, as the facility’s West Arena was named Grant Fuhr Arena, in honour of one of the City’s favourite sons and true Canadian sports heroes, lengendary NHL goalie, Grant Fuhr.
At the event, Mayor Ken Scott commented on the importance of the Agricultural Society and its respected contribution of the Agrena to the community.
