The City offers a range of waste diversion (e.g. compost, recycling) options for single-family residences. The Eco Centre provides additional options for all households. Public education around waste reduction and diversion has accompanied the solid waste management program.

Future opportunities to explore include the reduction of construction and demolition waste and increasing recycling and composting in multi-family buildings.

The City is also looking at this issue from a regional perspective. Political and technical representatives sit on the Capital Region Water Minimization Advisory Committee. This group represents 23 different municipalities in the region. It meets regularly to share best practices and identify ways to work together to improve waste management within the region.
