The City of Spruce Grove is re-writing its community plan. The plan, Your Bright Future: Municipal Development Plan 2009-2020, outlines a community vision and guides how the city grows and develops. Its outcomes will impact your community and your quality of life.
Factors considered include:
- Housing styles and densities
- Culture and heritage
- Parks and recreation
- Community and neighbourhood design
- Economic development
- Affordability
- Environmental stewardship
- Transportation systems
- Community sustainability
- Spruce Grove’s future
We worked together to develop a draft plan. This plan allows Spruce Grove to build on its past and become a sustainable forward looking community. Help determine Spruce Grove's bright future by reviewing the draft and telling us what you think.
Project Updates
Your Bright Future - v.2 (draft) received First Reading by Council August 17, 2009 and Public Hearing September 28, 2009. Two more readings of the bylaw by Council are required.
The City is waiting for direction from the Capital Region Board as it completes the Capital Region Growth Plan. Further work on the implementation of the plan is currently underway.
It is anticipated a revised draft based on input received will go back to Council and be posted on-line in spring 2010. Provide additional feedback by e-mail.
Public Consultations
This is your community and your input matters. Consultations were held to engage community members in the creation of this plan. Consultations started in spring 2008 with SpruceGroveQuest a major community visioning and values exercise. Three workshops hosted over 130 people and over 500 participated in a web-based survey. Other formal consultations included:
- Open house on initial direction of Sustainable Spruce Grove (February 2009)
- Two workshops and a web survey on policy details (April 2009)
- Session with the City's Youth in Action group (April 2009)
- Two open houses on draft plan (September 2009)
- Public Hearing (September 2009)
Together these consultations had over 700 participation hits. A website offered the opportunity to learn about the plan. Also, informal input was received outside these sessions.
Thanks to all consultation participants! Provide additional feedback by e-mail.
The majority of public consultations were conducted by an independent consultant to foster discussion, provide a range of approaches, and ensure objectivity (SpruceGroveQuest by MetroQuest, workshops, web survey, draft plan open houses by a partnership between IMI Strategics and Strategy Plus).
